Re: Blau Costa Verde star rating??

Has anyone had this happen?  I emailed my TA to ask about which aircraft the tour operators are using to go to Holguin this year from Halifax as we are looking at the blau... she emailed me back to inform me that this resort had been down graded to a 3.5* from 4.  I can't find anything from the tour operators to indicate that.  Looks like she is trying to sell me something more expensive as she says "There are nicer resorts than the Blau".  I like the women but she hasn't been there so how does she know?

When are you going? We have quite a group heading there on January 2(from the west)  and 3rd (from Toronto).
 We are secure in that it is a 4 star from previous visitors! I recently received an email from someone who was there, and says it is a strong 4!

When we booked through Thomson it was the MCV advertised as a 4*, 2 weeks before we left for Cuba it changed to the BCV, in next years brochure it is advertised as a 3.5*, 1st choice advertise it as a 4* in their brochure for next year, we decide which hotels to book after reading reviews and use the star rating as a guide as it can be a bit hit and miss, we really enjoyed our stay at the BCV and would not hesitate to go back

Thanks for your replies, I believe it is a good choice and I have been reading the reviews as well and have not found anything that will stop me from planning our next trip there.  We are not travelling until April and possibly with a group that have stayed there numerous times before. I know the travel industry is a commission sales setup but I have issues with someone not reccommending a  property when they use only the star ratings put out by tour operators as a guide.... We are pretty easy going people and don't need alot of fancy things at a resort, just require sun, beach, clean room, decent food, and beer....  I was wondering too how the beach in Holguin compares to Varadero??? rocks, clear sandy bottom??  Thanks again  :D

 The beach at BCV is better for snorkelling than Varadero.  This means that there is some coral and shells in the sand and water.  Not clear and sandy like Varadero is, but just as nice.  
 
 The snorkelling right in front of the BCV is excellent.  The sand isn't as soft as Varadero, but you won't need to wear shoes.  Lots of shade on the beach as well.
