Fidel Castro Stronger, Working More
Havana, Cuba/ ACN.- President Fidel Castro’s recovery from surgery continues on course and the Cuban leader is using the telephone more each day, said First Vice President Raul Castro on Sunday.
Speaking at the closing session of the 4th Congress of the Jose Marti Pioneers Organization, which groups students from grades 1-9, Raul rejected as totally false reports published on Sunday by US media outlets claiming that Fidel Castro was in a terminal health condition.
Raul told the Cuban children gathered at the Havana Convention Center: “I am informing you that he is not dying as some media in Miami are saying; to the contrary, he is constantly improving, but he himself noted in his proclamation that the recovery would take some time.”
The first vice president explained that he and other leaders held a long working meeting with Fidel just two days ago to address some state issues.
He said Fidel gave them several indications as well as sent greetings
to the youngsters celebrating their congress.
Raul Castro recalled that Fidel has never missed a congress of the
children’s organization and that this time he will see the event on the
taped TV broadcast. “He will be surprised as I was with all this, I am not going to tell him anything about it before he watches it on TV.”
He said that other people in Cuba and abroad will watch the congress and will conclude that this country must be taken serious, because of its great people. “If they dare to launch themselves against us, they will face an olive green telluric force, like a wasps’ nest, as Fidel described it some time ago.”
The children approved Raul Castro’s proposal to hold a special session of the congress in December with the participation of a fully recovered Fidel Castro.
