Important note for Cuba Time!!!
« on: October 17, 2006, 07:30:00 AM »
Set your watches... Found this on Granma.

 • Cuba is going back to the regular schedule

AFTER three years of remaining on a summer daylight savings time schedule, Cuba’s National Electrical Union decided to go back to its normal schedule during this month of October.

On Saturday night, October 28 going into Sunday, October 29, at 01:00 , watches should be set back one hour – going back to 00:00 hours – returning to the normal schedule, which in Cuba is known as the winter schedule.

The measure of using daylight savings time has become generalized in several countries, given that during summertime, days are longer and it is easier to take advantage of the sunlight.

In winter, the days are shorter because sunset comes earlier and the  electricity demand goes up because of less natural light.

In Cuba, because of electricity generation shortages, it was decided to maintain the summer daylight savings schedule for three years; however, the country is now in a position to produce all the energy it needs, which is why it was decided to go back to the regular schedule.

The remodeling of thermoelectric plants and their adaptation for consumption of Cuban crude oil; the installation of alternative generating plants and the repair of distribution networks have made it possible to increase and guarantee electricity generation in the country. (Navil García)

Having the same mathematical qualities as Crestfield, does this mean we get an extra hour in Cuba on November 3rd, our departure day?  :)

Does it also mean that in the wee hours of October 29th when I want to be at the airport 4 hours early instead of 3 hours early we will really be there 5 hours early?  :b:    :b:

Thanks for that Gambitt.   I certainly didn't want that to happen as it will be darker one hour earlier.

Bad news as far as I'm concerned.

Millybess....

I would recheck your times carefully.  It appears that Cuba is going to change time at 1 am, reverting to 12 am; instead of waiting till 2 am to go back to 1 am , as we do here.

If you are leaving on the morning of the 29th, you wil have that extra hour, before your flight.  Your return flight might appear to be one hour later, but it will actually be at the same time.

And Ken, with you being such any earlybird, I thought the morning daylight would be more to your taste?

Definitely not Eric.   I like my extra hour of daylight in the evening.

I'm not happy with this decision at all, but what can I do?????

Okay Gambitt soooo:

Our flight leaves at 6:30 a.m.  What's the sense of sleeping, right?  So I was thinking (over the groans of the other MB) that we would be at the airport at 2:30 a.m.  So if that is the day we "fall back", then we will really be there at 1:30 a.m. (if I can pull it off   :D   ), right?

If my ticket that I received before your article (e-ticket BTW with no visa that we apparently have to pick up at the airport which is a first   :D

If you leave your house, based on the current time, you would indeed be at the airport at 1:30 new (fall) time.

As to the return, I would suspect that your flight will leave at 20:45.

It means that the sun will be up earlier (no sleeping in Messybill) and of course it will get darker earlier!!! As far as leaving we will see you at the airport at still some ungodly hour! Just remember nothing really starts at the airport until about 4am, which in this case is 5 am unless we spring forward, but we are to Fall back???? See you in line ! save a spot in line!! When you figure it out let us know??????
