Just thought I'd start a new topic, to discuss dive sites in Canada, especially Ontario, as I know there are several divers on the site...

So, where are your favorite dive sties???

I've only dove tobermory and Bala falls in Ontario.

Bala falls was fun to drift dive off the falls, bounce off the rocks off the bottom... :D

they actually had (not sure if they still do) Tshirts that had a beaten up diver pulling himself out of the water with the title "I Survivied Bala Falls!". :rof:

JC, if you are still interested in Diving in Ontario, I have some great spots we can do.

One of my favorite places is Burleigh Falls, just down river from the locks. There is a fair bit of current at times, but that keeps the water clearer, than in the lakes.

Best thing is, that the entire dive, follows an underwater power line, so there is no chance for getting "lost" underwater...

The depths are to about 60 ft. for most of the dive, with a few holes that go deeper.

My favourite dive in Ontario is the Brockville Narrows! Lot's of history, warm water (no hoods)and gloves, decent visability??? Water temp is pretty much the same top to bottom. Lot's of wrecks and old.....bottles etc!

no hoods or gloves? Plenty of wrecks? Now that I like the sound of. :D

what are the water temps like? Full Wetsuit obviously, gloves I can deal with, but it's the hood that I can't stand.

JC ... no real"wrecks" as is part of the Trent System... unless you count the sunken canoe?

Full wets are a good idea, even mid summer, due to a nasty thermocline. Gloves and Hoods have been optional since mid-May (thank God... I hate hoods as much as you do). (we did the dive in March, with Dry suits... 34@ water) Last dive, water temp was 57@ at 60 ft.

Fred... I didn't know (remember) that you dove? And as a matter of fact, I am duing an Advanced Course, in Brockville on the July 22-23-24 weekend. I can definately let you know when I'm at Burleigh, but I'm up that way quite often, as my buddy's cottage is on Long Lake!

It's nice to see that there's been a corner so that the divers can get together.

It's interesting to hear about the diving in Canada and the surrounding areas. I get the feeling that the diving in Canada and the U.K are very similar. Sometimes difficult, cold water and very poor vis is the norm for the U.K, not the way I like it but have to lump it !

Do you have many wrecks in Ontario? I enjoy the clear waters of Cuba and so on but feel that the lack of wrecks from my recent visit put me off a bit. Nice to see the colourful corals and fish, but every dive was very similar, and it would of been nice to dive a wreck as a bit of variation. Are there areas of Cuba that has good wreck diving ?

We have some fantastic wrecks in the U.K, everything from WW1 Subs and U Boats to the latest walmart shopping trolley, something for everyone.

Actually Ontario has some of the best wreck diving anywhere.

Tobermorey has several wrecks which are now a National Diving Park.

And, we have the Great Lakes system, where there are everything from 1800's schooners, to big "laker" boats, to the "rum rummers" which ran Whiskey to the US, during prohibition...

Maybe you had best join Bellagio, on his trip to Ontario, and while the rest are off to Wonderland; Fred, John, You and myself, can take the day to go diving!
