Diving in Mexico?
« on: June 15, 2005, 08:45:00 PM »
Just wanted to know if there is any good diving in the cheaper places to visit in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, etc.?
I was watching prices and for around $600 each plus tax we could get a rest in Mexico next month and thought I would try to talk Henry into it by saying there is great diving somewhere?

 Any help would be appreciated!1

The Best place for diving, in the way of Mexico is Cozumel.  It's an island off the coast of Mexico, and it's one of the top dive sites in the world.

You'd have to get really lucky to find cozemel cheap, but if you want to dive, this is the place to go.

I agree with Gambitt,
Cozumel is famous for it's diving.  There is one dive spot called StingRay City which has hundreds of Rays ranging is size from a frying pan to about 5' across that come out to play when the divers hit the water, there's also a spot for a 1/2 to 3/4 mile drift dive along a shelf current which is supposed to be quite spectacular as well.  The boat drops  you off at the top of the run, and then meets you down at the end of it.

I've never done it myself....yet... but I have a couple of friends who have done it and loved it.  Cozumel reportedly has more dive shops than hotels.   My kinda place.     :D

I could be wrong but I think Deb was asking about the diving in the cheaper (selloff) parts of Mexico.

Are there any good dive shops or sites there?

Hi Deb,

Try this site, it has listings for all parts of Mexico for diving and snorkling.  I'm sure there's a lot more places out there, but it looks like this site is compiling a list of them.

   http://www.mexonline.com/diving.htm

it's categorized by area's so if you know where you'd like to go, you can view the dive shops/facilities available there.  If the dive shop has a website, they link to it from there as well.
