The gear is very heavy.  I was carrying an extra 60 lbs around and because it was all shore dives, I had to walk quite a distance from the dive shop to the beach with it on.

My poor back is bruised beyond recognition.

Well I for one would love to dive.  I have often enjoyed documentaries on diving and really love the diving pics posted on this website.  However, I'm not a good swimmer, I'm a little claustrophobic and a bit asthmatic, sooooo I compromise by snorkeling (surface snorkeling lol)which I love and find soooo relaxing.
I got an idea of the weight of your diving equipment last week when we watched the divers walk from the dive shop to the boat which was in shallow water.  There were two tiny women divers who were wearing their full wetsuit and equipment.  They were walking ever so slowly in the sand under the very hot sun.  I'm guessing they were very happy once they got into the water.

thanks david,

yes I have my wish list all written out.     :D

I'll be writing up my review on open water certification, just in case anybody else might be interested in doing it and wonders what's involved.

I'm not sure if I'll include the part about me swallowing half the ocean.     :rof:
