Georgian Bay
« on: June 09, 2005, 06:54:00 PM »
Hi All - especially those of you in Ontario.

I have been invited to a small island in Georgian Bay from July 3 to 10.

 Just a few questions:

 1. Will the mosquitoes be bad then or would that be later?

 2. Should the weather be OK that early in the summer?

 3. Can you swim in the water?  Well, of course you can, but will it be warmish?

 4. If someone has solar power, can I recharge my laptop from that source?

 5. Is there anything else I should know?

 Thanks tons.

Are you going to Beaujolais Island ?

The mosquitos are bad right now, they'll be pretty much gone by July.

It's 35 degrees here now, and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon.  The weather should be great.

The water never really gets warm, but you won't freeze.  Water temps are usually around 18 degrees.

I can't answer this one, maybe one of the techies will jump in here.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Re the solar power...

If the cottage/house is solar, then no problems at all, as everything else has to run off it!

If you are talking about just a solar panel, then you might need a 12v adapter (car lighter) for the laptop...
If at first, you do not succeed; You Obviously did Not use a BIG enough Hammer!!!
If at first, you Do Succeed.. try not to look tooo Astonished!

Thanks Heather for the link, and Gambitt for the information on the solar stuff.  I am sure they run a fridge and stuff, so there must be plug-ins.  Guess I will have to phone and ask.  Funny about your mosquitos in Ontario.  Although we here in BC get spring much earlier than you, August here is the worst mosquito time.
