Wow. That two weeks sure went fast.

Just returned from two lovely weeks at the Riu Negril. Feeling a little down at the thought of going back to work. Boo Hoo. :( :( Have to start some research on my next holiday to cheer myself up.

If anyone has any questions about the resort I'll be more than happy to try and answer them.

I'm going to pop some photos on the board now to cheer myself up and remind myself how lovely everything was. The review will follow once I'm feeling a little more energetic. Suffering from the 6 hour time difference at the moment. :t:

I was thinking about you yesterday wondering if you were back yet.

How was it? Did you love Bloody Bay beach? I'm dying to hear all about it, and to see your photo's.

When you get your breath back, and have a chance, tell us all about it.

Negril was quite small really. Lots of smaller family owned hotels and a few shops, more or less selling the same things. We were slightly out of Negril and didn't sample the nightlife apart from one evening at Margaritaville. The beaches and water were gorgeous. Riu Negril itself was so lovely we were a bit anxious about leaving in case everything else didn't compare well against it. We had lovely weather with only a couple of showers on an evening. The sand on Bloody Bay was a little more coarse than in Negril but the hotel itself made up for that. No complaints whatsoever.

We were in Negril back in 2001, but that was just after Hurricane Michelle went through. There was not a lot of damage, but 7 mile beach was less than a quarter of the size that it was before. It was still gorgeous. Your pictures are wonderful, looks like it is a fantastic resort. Thanx for sharing JJay. :rs:

Ya, your pics looked great! Did you check out Riu Tropical Bay at all - and if so, how does it compare with Riu Negril?
How was the bus ride? :D

Didn't check out the RTB as everyone who we spoke to said it wasn't as nice as Riu Negril. Picked up guests there when going on a tour and the reception area did look alot smaller. Riu Negril reception was very nice with a reception desk on one side and a nice bar area on the other.

The bus ride was ok 1hr 20 mins going and a little less coming back. I get travel sickness so wasn't looking forward to this at all but no problems. Infact the countryside is really lovely and the little villages you go through are very interesting.

The bus ride sounds like it has improved since the new road was built. last time we were there it took over 2 hours of driving through crater sized pot holes.

I have a question about the restaurants at the Riu.

Do you have a set time for lunch and dinner and is it the same time everyday? I heard that there were 2 seatings and you had to stick to whichever one they assigned to you. I'm talking about the buffet.

At this Riu you don't have particular sittings for the buffet just go along when you want. All the other Rius I have stayed at have had 2 set times which isn't ideal as I like to go along when the hunger pangs hit me and not have to wait till 9p.m. We moved around the restaurant quite alot so didn't get to know the particular waiter for one area which is one of the benefits the Riu chain quotes for the set times and allocated table. However, this could easily be resolved by sitting in the same area each night.

In fact the last time we were at a Riu with set tables we were glad at the end of one week when the couple on the table next to us went home as they were so miserable. Never responded to a hello or a smile and didn't really seem to be enjoying each others company either!!!!!!!!

That's good to know that the Riu Negril doesn't have it.

To be honest the set dinner times has put me off going to the Riu.

We don't even like doing the al a cartes for the simple reason that we don't want to have to watch the clock while we're on vacation.

We've looked at the Riu's many times, in Jamaica, DR and Mexico but the set meal times always put us off and we end up going somewhere else.

I know what you mean. My watch broke whilst I was on holiday and after the first day without a watch I didn't really care what time of day it was. You could tell by the water aerobics that it was time to go for lunch. When we'd had too much sun it was time to go to the bar. When the bar stool got a little wobbly it was time to go back to the room and shower. I did have another watch with me but didn't want to take it out in the beach bag. I used this on an evening just so my husband didn't keep me out too late!!

This trip there were no clocks in the rooms.
I woke up when the sun came up and went to sleep when I couldn't say awake any longer.

I love vacations :D
