RIU Tropical Bay
« on: February 26, 2007, 05:45:00 PM »
I am still on the look out for a Spring Vacation.  Jamaica has caught my interest as it is accessible from Halifax.  I have been looking at two resorts- Royal Decameron Runaway and RIU Tropical Bay.  RIU is my first choice.
Can anyone provide any information about these two resorts?
A Couple of questions that I have:
How does a 4* in Jamaica compare to a 4* in Cuba?
At either of these two areas are the beaches good for both walking and swimming?
Is it safe to go off the resort and tour the immediate area?
Do things come to a halt during Holy Week and Easter?

Any information would be much appreciated ~ Milli

The one thing I can tell you about Jamaica-

Do NOT leave the resort on your own!!!!!!

They will tell you the same thing in the orientation meeting.

Milli,
I went to the RTB. The beach is absolutely FANTASTIC (Bloody Bay) and walked both ways (to the right takes you to the Riu Negril, to the left up to the Grand Lido)

I went off the resort all the time. Gambitt, don't be an alarmist  :)

Animation, bar and buffet staff were out of this world.
I really thought they were going to have to drag me kicking and screaming to the bus when it was time to go.

here's a link to my RTB pics (and this isn't even all of them. Most of my Rick's Cafe pics are from the underwater camera so I never posted them, haha)

Any questions about this resort or area please, fire away
After watching the slideshow of my pics again, it just made me want to go back to Irie Land *sigh*

mojitomiss_cuba :  I think you forgot to leave the link to the pictures!  I am notorious for doing that!  Thank you so much.  I am kind of hovering between Jamaica and Punta Cana for a change. I never thought much about Jamaica until a couple of weeks ago and there is just something about it!!!!

Have you decided yet?
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

2words of advice - choose Jamaica!!!

We've been to Punta Cana, Cuba numerous times, Mayan Riviera, etc.
JAMAICA -especially NEGRIL , where the RIU  is, would be our absolute #1 choice. People are wonderful, food terrific, you can drink the water with no fear of illness - couldn't be better. No fear off the resort either, except maybe dark alleys at night, and you'd fear those at home too.

Boy do I ever want to go back to RTB. We've been there twice and I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Mojitomiss_cuba, your pics were great - brought back a lot of memories.  We went there in 2001 and 2002 and I didn't have a digital camera yet.  Got lots of video mind you - including under water. Just a few crappy film pictures.
 The sunset was beautiful

rumrunner, we really, really enjoyed Negril.
The beaches in Negril are amazing and the sunsets... OMG the sunsets  :)

I was watching, hoping and praying that another deal for Negril would come up, but I think we got lucky last year.

Milli, I see you've booked for Sandals Royal Hicacos in April. Congrats on the booking, but I thought you were looking at PP?
Hope you got a great deal  :)
