Departure Tax
« on: May 06, 2007, 10:03:47 AM »
Changes to the way you pay the departure tax at the airport when you leave Cuba kicked in on May 1st, the tax will be included in the ticket price and paid through the airline companies, we had to pay it as we arrived in April the new system is for people entering Cuba from May 1st

Is it still 25 CUC's?

I wonder if they will be able to charge what they like now that it is buried in your ticket price?
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

The First choice rep who is also the Signature vacations rep informed us that the tax would be included in the holiday price from May 1st, I took this to mean that it would apply to everybody leaving Cuba similar to the system that we have for the excape tax in the UK

This is for First choice travellers only, we have spoken to Thomas Cook as we travel in Jun and they have no plans to pay the departure tax for you.  Just tried to book holidays online with both Thomas Cook and Thomson and both mention that you have to pay the departue tax. but neither take the money for it.  It was mentioned awhile ago on TA.

Well that is strange, I wouldn't think the Cuban Goverment wouldn't do things diferently on a case by case type of way...either way we still have to pay  :icon_pirat:

It's the same with a lot of things in Cuba the TA's don't really know what is going on, a lot of the people on our flight had been told that they didn't have to pay the departure tax by 1st choice agents in the UK, when they got to the airport they then had to change money to pay the tax, quite a few got hit 15cuc per kilo for being overweight with there luggage
