Hi Milli,

here's a link to the DELL driver support site
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=gen

the best way to search is to enter your service tag# which should be on a tag at the top of the machine, or down on the side, it will bring up all specific drivers for that machine.  I would update the video drivers to start with, you may find other drivers that reference Service Pack3 for windows XP.

If you're going to keep the Norton, then check with them for any updates specifically related to Service pack3 for windows xp.  I'll try to find a link for you, but they rely heavily on their "live update" feature, so give that a shot first.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

There is a list of drivers on the Dell site and I think I will wait til my daughter can help me with them next week. I used the Symregfix but there does not seem to be any difference in the spazing screen resolution.  I will leave things as they are for now as the computer is ok as long as I don't restart it or use Norton  The only other thing I will ask for now is : Is the Windows firewall all the protection I need as far as a firewall goes?  If it is I will enable it and get rid of Norton's.  As far as the Norton virus protection goes I am strongly considering switching to something else.  Thanks JC--I have learned a few things about this beast from all this

yeah, windows firewall is fine, I use it when I'm on an open network with my laptop, but turn it off when I"m behind a hardware firewall.

You may find the problem goes away when you uninstall nortons.   :dontknow:

For all your help!!  I decided to bite the bullet today and take your FULL advice JC and uninstall Norton.  I decided to download the virus program you recommended from ESET.  I was happy to see that it offered links to uninstalls for various virus scan programs.

:6:  I have just restarted my computer and not only did the screen resolution stay fixed on the proper setting but my original problem from almost 6 months ago is gone and I can now fully access TripCentral and Air Canada AND one problem I forgot to mention --I can now watch CNN videos!   :cheers2:  Again THANKS for your patience and help.
