Difference between Camuguay resorts?
« on: October 31, 2008, 08:56:17 AM »
We're contemplating a trip at Christmas. The lowest cost now is Camuguay. Can anyone recommend either Club Amigo Mayanabo or Club Amigo Caracol?
It is a family trip with the kids, b 15, and g 13. They're not high maintenance so we don't need much, but decent food and clean.
HELP?!
Thanks.
I'm confused, no wait... maybe I'm not...

We have just returned from Santa Lucia and managed a visit to both of the resorts you mentioned. We stayed at the Grand Club and certainly enjoyed the resort for the $$. But as Tracie said the Mayanoba reminded her of the old barracks style hotel (like Guardalavaca) So in our humble opinion the Caracol would be our choice hands down between the two you mentioned. The layout is very nice and close to the Ocean.

 Any other questions, just ask

Hi,
I've stayed a both Gran Club and Caracol.

IMHO, you can't go wrong with Caracol for a family vacation.  The rooms are divided into a sitting room and bedroom, so lots of room to move around in.  The hotel is older, but always clean.
The food isn't 5 star, but if your kids like fries and hotdogs and burgers, they will love the beach grill for lunch.  There is always pasta both at lunch and diner, and the breads and ice cream are great.

The staff is what makes this hotel such a hit with repeat guests.  From the day you arrive, they make you feel like you're at home.

I keep going back because it's clean, the food is good (nothing fancy), the staff is wonderful, the beach is great and the beer is cold.  What more do I need?

Enjoy!  and if you have specific questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

Cheers,

Thanks Beachlover

Have you noticed anyone offering horseback riding in the area of the resorts?

Hi Big John,
Yes there is horseback riding.  The 4 resorts are all within walking distance of each other, and between Gran Club and Brisas, there is horseback riding.  Every year, I say I'm going to do that, but the 2 weeks are up before I get around to it.  I do know it's quite affordable.

There is also great snorkeling just off the beach at Caracol, horse and buggy rides to coco beach, catamaran trips, one to Playa Bonita beach, and one to Iguana Island.  Tours to the city of Camaguey also available.  Disco next door at Gran Club, as well as dancing and show at Mar Verde (the cultural centre next door to Caracol) after the show at the hotel.
The entertainers will be happy to take you there if you're interested.  Lots of beach volleyball in the morning, bocce ball and dance lessons of course.

Sorry...i kinda went on and on....If you want to do a tour of Camaguey, pm me, and I'll tell you who to talk to at the hotel to get a taxi for your family.  The driver is fluent in English and will give you a great tour.

If you have any other questions, ask away,

Cheers,
Beachlover

 :Iagree:
Caricol would be great for a family, although it has been a couple of years since we were there, we had a great time.  We checked out all the other resorts there and they all looked pleasant.  They mentioned an eat around program there last year, but I don't know if they still do it or not.  There was a tour train that went around the area, good chance for a change of scenery and we took a taxi to Coco beach....it is beautiful there, you can go by horse and buggy but the road is long, dusty and very bumpy; at least the taxi was airconditioned!  I don't think you can go wrong with Caricol for a family destination. Enjoy

2008 Cayo Coco - Oasis Playa Coco
2007 Holguin - Blau Costa Verde
2006 Santa Lucia - Club Amigo Caracol
