I've been there twice and would go back in a minute!
Central location, nice beach snorkeling, choices of restaurants, and FREE RUM! 2 pools, good activities and  nice people.
When is the good price for?
I'm confused, no wait... maybe I'm not...

Jan 13th, $675 + taxes per adult and $235 + taxes for the young lad.  Works out to just over $1900 for all 3 of us taxes included.

I have found in the past that that week is one of the cheapest weeks to go south if you book last minute.
Previously Brisas G. was $297+taxes in Jan. '08 and $277+ in January, '07. How are your nerves?

March 2005, we spent 2 weeks at Brisas G, second week with our son and his finance. We all thoroughly enjoyed BG. It is not a 5 star resort but then it doesn't pretend to be one either. We would not hesitate to return. If you've not seen the resort check out our website for photos.

And in January it will be warmer than Varadero as it further south.
We hope to do more rivercruising - relax and see the sights.

We've never stayed right in Guardalavaca, always 15-20 min away (where it wasn't worth the drive, to go in for the "night-life").  Is there any real "off-resort" places to go, preferably to join the local's for a night?

Yes.
You can walk along the boardwalk between the resorts and the ocean to the beach bar. There are usually a few locals at the bar. If you want to walk a few, (15), minutes to the apartment buildings in Guardalavaca, there is a bar where beer is warm and rum is sold. Not many AI tourists go there. I've never felt threatened walking alone at night but....
La Roca disco has locals attending, but usually as the guest of a tourist. The admission fee is (was) 5 CUC.

There is a poster on Debbies Cuba forum named Sandytoes who went to BG three or four times. She had nothing but good things to say about it. I would like to go there myself some day. My list is so long, lol

Thanks all for your input, but can anyone tell me what the food is like.  I am a picky eater and I don't like seafood at all, Eric, Logan, and my mother, who is also going with us this year, like seafood, so not a problem for them.  I will be good as long as there is a pasta station, pizza, a variety of meats etc...

We were at Brisas G in April - loved it!!!  Loved the location, the staff is awesome!! The hotel section was very badly damaged in hurricane Ike and while it's supposed to be reopened sometime in December, I can't possibly see how.  A lot of the ocean view rooms lost their patio doors, the roofs over the balconies, etc.  Have read on TA that the pool at the hotel section is still being worked on as well.  I believe the Villa section is the only part of the resort that is open.  The food was the worst part of the entire trip - there was however a pasta station in the buffet and lots of wonderful bread, cheese, etc.   The pizza was excellent!!!  You should be okay with the food.
