Back from Brisas Sierra Mar
« on: January 05, 2009, 04:23:09 PM »
Had a great time at the Brisas last week, met lots of great people, both Cuban and other... had a great New Years Eve Party number of people at the resort doubled as the employess all brought family in, the put a huge spread of Shrimp, Lobster, turkey, Pork  and fish....

They also had a big party on Jan 2 to celebrat the 15th anni of the hotel, had several guests there who have came every year as well as a large number that have been coming for over 10 years.......

unfortunately did not get into Sanitago for Raul's speech, the guides strongly recomended against going in due to the huge numbers of people who would be there

On the down side... no air conditing or hot water from Monday to Saturday and no water at all on New Years Eve...  oh well "Es Cuba"

 Welcome home   :hiwave:
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Question:  How inconvenient was it to have no hot water or a/c for that long?  Was it really hot in your room?  I can understand "es Cuba" but when it is hot, I really need my a/c lol.

The cold water was not that cold so you could still shower...
The problem with no air was that we were on the ground floor and when we opened the patio door we got no see ums in the room and I got a lot of bites.. tose on the second and 3rd floor did not get any bugs.

So you mean that the a/c problem was throughout the resort?

Yes air conditioning and hot water were own for the entire resort from monday afternoon till Sat morning..

The 2 are tied together... heat from the air warms the water.... and the pump broke and was replaced with one that was to small to do the job.

No AC for a week in CUba is not good.  :nono:

I love going to Cuba, and I understand the difficulties they face, (and I do what I can to help out!) but if I can't cool the room down to sleep at night, someone is going to hear about it!

Even here at home, I often sleep in the basement recroom just because it's cooler.  If it's 70 upstairs, it's easily 55 down here.

Yikes!  That must have caused some upset to a lot of guests (think menopausal women like me ).

At one point I heard there was a petition going arround but I never saw it..... when he heard about that one of the staff commented to me that, "this is Cuba.... not Canada..."

I felt sorry for the desk and management staff as there was nothing they could do about it, the broken pump was not managed by the restort but by the local government.

I suppose it was not possible to transfer anyone to another resort.  It must have been full pretty much everywhere that week.

We had a couple transfer over from the Carisol at the start of the week so I think that there might have been room to go elsewhere but you run the risk of something may be wrong there as well... in fact we heard on the plane that another resort had no water for 2 days... I think it was the Carisol but not sure.
