My Med Cruise report
« on: September 07, 2009, 01:29:41 PM »
Ok sorry its took me so long but heres a brief review and some pics .
First day was Palma ( Mallorca -didn't take any pictures as we were settling in on the ship )
We travelled with Ocean village and flew from Manchester to Palma ( 2 hours ) -check in onto the ship was very well organised and once we had been processed we were free to use the facilities of the ship .We couldn't check into our rooms till 3 o'clock so familiarised ourselves with the BBQ and the bar !

The 2nd day was a sea day so sorry no pics and the next day was a half day stop in Tunis -The port we stopped in 'La Guillette' was quite an industrial port and not the prettiest - we have ben to Tunisia before ( and didn't like it ) as it was only a half day stop we didn't get off we took advantage of a quieter boat .
4th day -Naples ..we walked into Naples and caught the train to Pompei ( I've wanted to go there since I was 8 years old ) It was amazing !! so much bigger than I thought it would be and so much has been saved

After a couple of hours there we got the train back to Naples and had a stroll around there -Very,very busy place - found a lovely restaraunt and had pizza and pasta  :icon_thumright:

Next day was Livorno -we stayed on the boat till lunchtime and had a walk around the shops and market there -It had a very laid back feel to it-I like it alot

After that it was Ville France and Monte Carlo - probably my favourite stop -Ville France is just so beautiful with its winding streets and squares and shops and restaurants and the fact that we came ashore by tender -it was just soooooo loverly ! We caught the train to Monte Carlo and spent a few hours oohing and aahing over the yachts and the cars .

Ville France

Monte Carlo

Next day was Ajjacio in Corsica - this was a lovely place - we only had half a day here -so just strolled around the town -saw Naploleons house etc

Then it was back to Palma for week two  -I'll have to put that on tomorrow as son wants feeding

thanks for sharing
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Week two -we docked in Palma for the day -Lovely place  - really opened my eyes -loads of lovely twisty, turny narrow streets -perfect for mooching along ,loads of tapas bars to stop and have  a drink and a snack and watch the world go by and the street entertainers were fab

The next day was at sea and back to Tunisia - this was a part of the cruise we weren't too happy with -seemed  like wasted days - but they were good for sunbathing !

Next was Rome !! ..we did an organised excoursion as the dock was over an hour away from Rome and we had seen people left behind at Tunis -we wanted to be sure we got back to the ship -we did a walk around Rome with a guide and got our own lunch in a snack bar just off the Trevi fountain .Absolutley loved Rome - must go back and spend a few days there .

The colluseum was awesome ! Its sooo big and so well designed

The Roman Forum -this again was amazing

The Panthenon -the light in here is amazing ( sorry I've run out of words to describe it ) the hole in the ceiling lets in a shaft of light and the tiles on the floor have holes in to let out the rain water - I believe when it snows it is sureal

The Trevi fountain - just stunning

another fountain -can't remember name - puts our garden water feature to shame !

Next was St Raphael -again a lovely place - a bit flash for me but the old town and market was lovely

and then Barcelona -I can't say I like Barcelona -very busy -quite intimidating in places ...and it rained

and that was it -we did go to Genoa as well but forgot totake the camera out !
and now I'm home ,back to work and thoroughly fed up !

lizzylobs!  I really enjoyed them and also the little travelogue that accompanies them.  What a lot you saw in 14 days!  Thanks for taking the time to post this excellent information.  I trust the people who were left behind in one port were able to catch up with the cruise!

Thanks for all your kind words -It really gave me a taste of places I wouldn't have gone before .
I'm not sure what happened to the people who got left behind -over the two weeks there were a few ...and quite a few close calls too .

Your fabulous photos of Rome, and Pompeii btw, brought back many memories!  Thanks so much.  (Ironic: I, too, did not care for Barcelona although many people just love it!)  TC
